Take My Wings

Butterfly fragile,
my wings new grown.
I flew. I dreamed,
and I flew

right into your net.
Coaxed by a breath of words
fluttered into my susceptible ears,
Entrapped by my own desire.
to believe

that the intensity in your eyes
was more than the clinical interest
of a magnifying glass.

Pin my wings,
taking out your heart
even as I strip bare.

Mount me.
I helped you weave the net
so much thicker, so much tighter,
with my own indiscretions.

Bind me, wrapping me fast
into my cocoon.
Turn me back
from newly metamorphed butterfly
to graceless worm.

I let you experiment,
your gaze scientist cold,
forgetting I once knew

how to fly.

Just Be

Everything you ever did wrong
you wanted to fix with me,
your tweaked rerun.
The casting was all wrong.

A bean sprouted from disappointed dreams,
I went off script, losing
the pink swirls, the tea parties,
and the porcelain dolls.

Your prototype miscarried
into gothic horror,
tarot card spreads and spirits
calling from the darkness.

My wings didn't sprout.
The tiara never fit.
My shields failed.

Layers of masks;
the paint is peeling.
Alterations and cuts,
the skin doesn't fit.

I struggle to breathe; to cut;
I'm corseted into the wrong role,
robed as an ill favored caricature.

I'm shedding your skin
into something reptilian and sleek.
Dropping the masks,
I still won't wear pink

Fairy Flight - TAW Bird Challenge

":I'm taking a ride with my best friend
I hope he never lets me down again
He knows where he's taking me
Taking me where I want to be
I'm taking a ride with my best friend

We're flying high
We're watching the world pass us by
Never want to come down
Never want to put my feet back down on the ground"

-Depeche Mode - Never Let Me Down Again

I thought it would be fun to add a little steampunk
fairy flavor to the Take a Word Bird challenge!

Gentleman Hellephant - New Digitalmania Challenge

Sometimes, it's the pieces that look the simplest that take the longest.

My Gentleman Hellephant took me an ungodly number of hours
to clean up and make beautiful and ready for flight.

Yes, I know, he has an elephant head with only one ear.
Alas, Mr Hellephant misplaced his ear and has yet to find it.
When he does, I will happily re-attach it for him!

Mirror Image - 3Muse Challenge

This weeks challenge from Three Muses is Mirror.

I started with a photo from the French Quarter and added a darling little Victorian girl.

Good versus evil?

Or is it just a case of multi universes?

Is she made of gummy bears in one?

But, in none of them, I assure you, is she dancing....

Something Fishy this way Comes - TAW challenge

Please be very quiet...

We have been following the elusive leaping trout for three days
through the thickest part of the mushroom jungle.

Finally, we have sidled up close enough to capture
this image of it as it leaps after it's natural prey.

Astounding.  Mother Nature at her finest.

Butterflies on my Mind - TAW challenge

She felt a buzzing in her ears.
Her thoughts felt a little fluttery
but she knew she had never looked
so wonderful!

The challenge at Take a Word this week
was Butterfly
so this is what I came up with.

Beautiful, fluttering butterflies!
