Virgin State of Mind - Digitalmania challenge a la homage Catrin Welz-Stein

Our inspiration this week at Digitalmania was the wonderfully surreal work of Catrin Welz-Stein.

I've been enamored of the song "Virgin State of Mind" by K's Choice since I heard it featured on the episode of BTVS "Dopplegangland".

"There's a chair in my head on which I used to sit

Took a pencil and I wrote the following on it

Now there's a key where my wonderful mouth used to be

Dig it up, throw it at me..."

Questions Three - Digitalmania challenge

Our inspiration this week at digitalmania was more medieval fairy tale than Egyptian, but I have had Ancient Egypt in my head all week.

I am afraid that my pieces might not qualify to be included in this weeks challenge, but I couldn't seem to stop myself from googling pictures of the 1917 Theda Bara version of Cleopatra.

The costumes and the glamor!  I love old Hollywood and then combine that with Ancient Egypt. ...

I couldn't resist!

Also. I do realize that my sphinx is actually the Greek myth version, but she seemed to fit in the background so perfectly.

Faced - Digitalmania challenge

I meant to post these earlier than today as Florian Nicholle's was last weeks inspiration over at Digitalmania.

Clearly, I had a lot of fun with paint brushes!

Circus CIRCUS Circus in SPACE - Digitalmania challenge

Over at Digitalmania this week, our challenge involved inspiration from the art of Cathy Horner.  I immediately fell in love with her circus series.

She makes use of brilliant color and geometric shapes.  I definitely found the color and a little of shaping, but, as per usual, I took things in a whole new bizarre direction.

Our challenge this week at Digitalmania was Banksy.

I'm a little ambivalent on the subject of graffiti.  On the one hand I dislike 

the tagging sort that is little more than vandalism.

Yet, when you see a clever witty piece by someone like Banksy, 

I can't help but admire the artistry of it.

My take on the Banksy challenge took me back to my love of history.  

Even in medieval times, surely, there were young vandals making trouble 

and tagging the ever so majestic castle walls...

Our artistic inspiration this week at Digitalmania was Rapahel Vicenzi. He does some amazing digital pieces with a lot of geometric detail and a great deal of focus on striking female faces. His backgrounds are almost always a stark white.
Going through his work, I felt a moment of panic, but what is wonderful about this group is the challenge. We have to try and learn new things. I felt a little out of my element but then just went ahead.

I used a portrait head by Perugino and then added a lot of feather motif items (I decided to do a sort of spin on the Furies).
